After you have ruled out every physical reason, then here are five things you can do to work towards effectively reversing depression:
1. Recognize and identify the thoughts and value judgments that you express about yourself.
2. Realize that many of these thoughts are automatic (They are almost like an obsession.)
3. Distinguish between ideas and facts. Simply because a person thinks something does not make it true, nor does it mean that we should believe it.
4. After discovering that a particular thought is not true, state precisely that it is inaccurate or invalid, putting the reasons into words helps in three ways:
A. It reduces the frequency with which the ideas come back.
B. It decreases the intensity of the idea.
C. It lessens the feeling or mood that the idea generates.
5. Consider alternative explanations to events.
